Description
With Australian botanical forms etched into the hand-blown glass, Hirst’s Botany series explores fragility, permanence, and connection to place. Initially developed during her time in the JamFactory Associate Program, Hirst was commissioned to produce distinctive Botany water glasses for Melbourne’s ground-breaking, three-hatted restaurant Yiaga. For this exhibition, Hirst has dramatically scaled-up the works, creating a strong sculptural presence. The pieces showcase the intricacy of the botanical forms through her deft craftwork and the unique optical qualities of glass.
