Description
Tom Summers has gained significant attention in recent years, for his architecturally informed ceramic vessels. A freestanding mirror and side table featured in this exhibition represent a significant scaling up of his practice, as well as an expansion into sculptural furniture typologies. Summers delights in combining ceramics with other materials – in this instance through inserting wooden components into slotted ceramic bases. Summers has adopted woodworking into his practice since undertaking a JamFactory supported workshop at Domaine de Boisbuchet in France last year. The pieces continue his exploration of surrealistic form in tension with surface, materiality and function.
